En términos generales, cutting edge o de vanguardia se refiere a la última tecnología que ha finalizado su desarrollo y ha sido completamente probada. Bleeding edge o punta de prueba sangrante es aquella tecnología que no ha terminado de desarrollarse y/o aún se está probando. Por lo tanto, el uso de esta ultima conlleva el riesgo de ser poco confiable o inestable.
