UEFI wurde mit Windows 8 als Ersatz/Erweiterung des BIOS Systems eingeführt. Ein Beispiel dieser Erweiterungen erlaubt es Computern, Festplatten mit mehr als 2 Terrabyte (2.000 Gigabyte) Speicher zu verwenden.
